My name is Maarit Räsänen and I got my kennel name “Sinisilkin” the year 1986.

I belong to many communities, like Finnish Kennel Club, Finnish Shetland Sheepdog Club, Finnish Breeders Club etc.

I have done work in different breed clubs, for example head editor of breed magazines and member of different breed clubs boards.

My love for dogs goes back as long as I can remember. My parents raised for example German Shepard Dogs when I was a child.

Today breeding and showing is my main hobby. I am at home as a house wife so I have much time to spend with my hobby.

We, me and my oldest daughter, take usually handling dogs from differend breeds with us to our show trips. Some of these you can find under the “Handling” link.

We live in Finland, in a small countryside town of Hammaslahti, where life is simple and peaceful. Our nearest city is Joensuu. I have seven children, so sometimes life here is not so quiet and peaceful.

Because we live in coutryside in our own house, we are able to have other animals too. We have three cats and several guinea pigs. My daugters like riding with horses so we have two ponies and two horses. There are large fields, woods and much space to run and play around.

When we breed, each litter is carefully planned. I love the challenge of breeding a better dog, so this is done on a small scale. When we do occasionally have puppies available, all dogs for sale from Sinisilkin kennel are sold to approved homes only.

This is a marvelous hobby! It has been wonderful traveling to new places, meeting new people and sharing stories and experiences with people who have the same love for the breeds that I do.
